''Beyond the Eyes" Exhibition by La Mo

From November 2023 to January 2024, discover “Beyond the Eyes”, a unique exhibition by La Mo, one of Cambodia’s most recognized artist.

THE ARTIST

La Mo is an artist and photographer from Siem Reap whose creative practices span fine art, documentary, travel, landscape, wildlife, and macro photography. Unseen Cambodia is La Mo’s ongoing project, culminating in formulating social media platforms and an eponymous publication (forthcoming) to promote Cambodia’s aesthetics beyond things “Angkor.” While Beyond the Eyes is the photographer’s latest interest in exploring ways to capture (or to “write”) image (of daily life and nature) that is not immediately visible and available to the eyes by providing a different way of looking—through the photographer’s lens, composition and manipulation of lights and shadows, at the object “in focus.”

Began a journey in photography as a hobby in 1994, La Mo is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards (2017, 2018), National Awards, and 2018’s Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship. He is currently a Fujifilm X photographer. He traveled widely in Southeast Asia (particularly the Buddhist regions), Japan, and Europe—on these trips, he mainly, if not always, performed or reenacted his role as a landscape and travel photographer. La Mo developed a unique composition and mode in the last ten years of his photographic practices—attending to light and its ephemeral nature—and established himself as one of the few leading photographers in the country.
