''Staging'' Exhibition by Damien Dufresne

THE ARTIST

Damien Dufresne is an atypical photographer who is recognized in makeup and advertising, who finds from his artistic background the freedom to forget the constraints of fashion and marketing. Having previously lived and worked in Paris, Seoul, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, he is currently living in Siem Reap.

His previous jobs as a hairdresser and makeup artist shaped the photographer he is today. For Damien Dufresne, the camera is only a tool that serves to immortalize the moment.

His artworks are inspired by people he meets on the road, at a dinner, or in passing on the street. He selects the models whose faces touch him, which could be the way they are looking, the features of the face or head or just their attitude. He prefers to work with introverted models.

He paints the faces and bodies of his models, giving them all freedom except to pose. They are requested to embrace their feelings in the moment, to forget the camera, to forget the eyes of others.

When asked about his career, Damien Dufresne replied: ‘‘I have no concept or career plan, I don’t calculate, I improvise constantly. I do not seek to provoke, but I do not forbid myself anything. He takes photography that speaks to him and makes sense to him.
